Born in Paris in 1991, Tony Bird (aka Antoine Beux) is the co-leader/composer/violinist of 2BIRDS BAND. As a child, he spent a great part of his time listening to a wide variety of music that would propel him on his musical path. At the age of five he began learning the violin. Studying in diverse music schools and conservatories in Paris, Tony entered the Gennevilliers National School of Music in 2010 (Paris) and was awarded a Classical Violin Prize. Meanwhile, he started studying jazz at the International Music Educators of Paris (IMEP).

In 2013, he entered Berklee College of Music as a Full Time Scholarship recipient and it was during this time that he co-created 2BIRDS BAND. As a recent graduate from Berklee, Tony continues to establish himself as a performer and composer. He has recorded and arranged string parts for American Idol 2018 nominee, Brandon Diaz; opened for jazz legend Randy Weston at the Martinique Jazz Festival with An Lot Soley led by pianist Maher Beauroy; performed for internationally renowned artists such as Wong Lee Hom and Jacob Collier and is part of the Cirque Du Soleil instrumentalist database. He has also been called on to work with the Miami based Parisian folk/gypsy jazz band, The French Horn Collective . Tony teaches jazz and classical violin and performs with 2BIRDS BAND in New York, Boston, Canada and France. He was hired as a solo violinist for 10 time Tony Award musical “The Band’s Visit” USA Tour 2019/2020. In 2021, he’s part of INSULA II, a project supported by Saison Africa 2020 (Institut Francais) directed by Maher Beauroy.

His influences embrace the music of classical greats like Bach, Ravel and Stravinsky to hardcore metal. Tony borrows from legendary musicians such as Stephane Grappelli, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, James Brown, Prince, all world music and film scores. He’s passionate about promoting the “String Revolution” philosophy, which explores playing string music out of the periphery that is often confined to classical string sounds and traditions. With the aim of challenging cliches and stereotypes around string music, Tony’s vision is to push the limits of string music while fostering an appreciation of it to audiences worldwide.

About the band:

2BIRDS BAND is a string-rock music collective created in Boston in 2014 by French violinists Gabe Bird (aka Gabriel Majou) and Tony Bird (aka Antoine Beux). The 5 piece band is composed of a very atypical instrumentation, 2 violins, cello, electric bass and drums and has as primary goal to push the musical and technical limits of string instruments as well as to put their role in the whole music industry back into question. 2BIRDS BAND music and performances range from classical to hard rock, and borrows a lot from the Afro American tradition (jazz, soul, funk) as well as film scoring, contemporary classical music and “world music”. Fusing classical tradition and contemporary styles, the band presents a new way of approaching strings with a sound that is both cultured and groovy.

Since it's formation, the band has performed and led clinics in the Boston, New York, and Toronto areas, as well as a 2017 tour of France. It has also intrigued couple well-knowned artists like Jean Luc Ponty, Darol Anger and Christian Howes. The band is now acting as a collective in between Brooklyn,NY and Paris and is led by Tony Bird.

The band is about to release a first album “For Lack Of A Better World” and is working on a second one for 2022.
